Why study Tax?
The Master of Science in Taxation Program at the University of Cincinnati provides advanced training for students seeking specialized expertise in tax accounting.
The MS Taxation program is designed for applicants with an academic background in accounting or those currently practicing in the accounting profession, as the curriculum is intended for individuals with a strong accounting foundation.
With a minimum of 30 credit hours required, the MS in Taxation program can be completed full- or part-time in an online modality and can count toward credits to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination. Check with your state’s guidelines for details on sitting for the CPA exam.
Successful tax accountants possess excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze information. Other attributes include:

- Ability to identify and control risk

- Team building skills

Graduates of the UC Lindner College of Business accounting program can find career opportunities in public and corporate accounting. Employers include both national and international public accounting firms (Big 4), regional and local public accounting firms, financial services firms, manufacturing firms and retailers and others. In addition, it is not uncommon for accountants to be self-employed providing tax services as a consultant or through their own firm. Examples of jobs include:
- CPAs (Certified Public Accountants) in public auditing
- Internal revenue agents
- Tax consultants
- Internal auditors
- Financial executives
- Tax professionals in governmental and non-profit organizations
The degree of Master of Science is granted to those who satisfactorily complete the required course work, carrying a minimum GPA of 3.0 or more. The degree must be completed within five years of acceptance into the program. All students must contract for graduation and be enrolled for at least one credit hour of study each academic year.

If your bachelor’s degree is a three-year degree you must submit the free WES degree equivalency tool.
